Held on West 88th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West, the event featured music, food, bouncy rides, haircuts for kids, community tabling, and a lively atmosphere of celebration and support. The highlight of the day was the distribution of over 400 backpacks filled with essential school supplies, ensuring that local children are prepared and excited for the upcoming school year.
Building Bridges Through Partnership
The event was spearheaded by Gregory Kirsopp of the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau in collaboration with the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce, which has long been committed to uniting communities through commerce, advocacy, and service. Together, they brought dozens of local businesses, nonprofits, and civic groups to the table, each contributing to the spirit of giving back.
“This event is about more than backpacks—it’s about bringing people together,” said Kirsopp. “By working with the Chamber and community partners, we are strengthening relationships, building trust, and investing in our children’s futures.”
A Day of Fun and Empowerment

Children lined up excitedly to receive backpacks, enjoy rides, and get back-to-school haircuts, while parents connected with community groups and local leaders. Vendors and sponsors ranging from small businesses to major corporations like Starbucks and AT&T joined in to support the cause.
For the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce, the partnership was a natural fit.
“Our mission is to empower families, strengthen economies, and create bridges across communities,” said Duvi Honig, Founder and CEO of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce. “This block party is proof of what happens when communities unite — kids walk away with school supplies, families feel supported, and trust between neighborhoods and law enforcement is strengthened.”
Strengthening Community Ties
The event was a visible testament to how cooperation between law enforcement, community leaders, and businesses can build stronger, safer, and more resilient neighborhoods. By blending celebration with tangible support, the Back-to-School Block Party gave hundreds of children the tools they need to succeed, while fostering a sense of belonging and hope for families across Manhattan.
As the music played and children left with bright smiles and full backpacks, the message of the day was clear: when communities come together, everyone wins.
