The Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce joined a
Coalition Letter sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland headed by the Zachor Legal Institute requesting the Justice Department prosecute the college campus group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) in a significant move to fight against anti-Semitic behavior on college campuses.
SJP has been known for its aggressive tactics and anti-Semitic rhetoric on college campuses across the United States. The group’s actions, which include physically attacking Jewish students and attempting to silence their voices, are not only harmful but also a clear violation of their rights as American citizens. By requesting the Justice Department to prosecute SJP under federal statutes such as the "KKK laws," which were enacted to protect individuals from threats, violence, and the deprivation of their rights, the coalition is highlighting the seriousness of the situation and advocating for justice to be served.
The letter to Attorney General Garland also brings attention to the specific incidents of violence and intimidation carried out by SJP members on various campuses, including the University of California, Los Angeles, where members were reportedly seen brandishing knives.
These actions are not only alarming but also go against the principles of freedom of speech and the right to feel safe on college campuses. It is unacceptable for any group to use violence and intimidation to silence others, especially when it comes to matters of faith and identity.
The coalition’s request for prosecution is not only about holding SJP accountable for their actions but also about sending a clear message that anti-Semitic behavior will not be tolerated in any form. By taking a stand against this hateful rhetoric and violence, the organizations involved are standing up for the rights of Jewish Americans and ensuring that they can freely express their beliefs without fear of retribution.
“It is important for the Justice Department to take this request seriously and investigate the allegations made by the coalition” says Duvi Honig Founder/Ceo of The Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce.
By prosecuting SJP under federal laws meant to protect individuals from hate and violence, the Justice Department can send a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated in our society. It is essential for all Americans, regardless of their religious beliefs, to feel safe and secure in their communities, and prosecuting those who seek to spread hatred and violence is a step in the right direction.
The coalition’s letter to Attorney General Garland requesting the prosecution of SJP is a critical step in the fight against anti-Semitism on college campuses. By standing together and advocating for justice, these organizations are sending a clear message that hate and violence have no place in our society. It is crucial for the Justice Department to take action and hold those responsible for harassing and intimidating Jewish students accountable for their actions. Only then can we ensure that all individuals, regardless of their background or beliefs, can feel safe and secure on college campuses and in their communities.
