Doing Business in Israel? Meet Everyone You Need to at the Upcoming Jerusalem Expo and Business Conference

For the second year in a row, the Anglo-Israeli business world will have an event of its own at which to network and open new windows of opportunity.

The “Jerusalem Expo and Conference,” hosted by the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce – Israel Division, will take place on Wednesday, May 15th, 2019, at the Jerusalem Gardens Hotel. Unique in its kind, the event is an invaluable opportunity for businesses to exhibit their services; for entrepreneurs to network and learn of myriad helpful resources; and to attend a business conference featuring leading speakers on various pertinent topics.

Israeli residents from North America, Europe, South Africa and other English speaking countries face various cultural and/or legal struggles when trying to succeed in the “Sabra” business world. Unfortunately, as a result, many promising ventures continually struggle, or were even forced to shutter. Many Anglo-Israelis feel forced to keep their business in their original country, taking the painful step of being away from their family and Land for extended periods of time.

Ever since its founding, the Chamber’s Israel Division has helped bridge the gaps by fostering coveted relationships across the Israeli political, diplomatic and business spectrum and hosting innovative networking events such as the flagship Expo and Conference.

“There is no way to quantify just how many cascading success stories have resulted from the Israel Division and last year’s inaugural Expo and Conference,” says Duvi Honig, Founder and CEO of the Chamber. “We look forward to building upon all this empowerment and success at the upcoming event.”

NJ Department of Health meets with Life for Lyme in TRENTON

Pictured from left to right are: Donna Leusner, Jackie Cornell, Dr. Tina Tan, Dawn Thomas, Kim Cervantes, Dr. Ed Lifshitz, Duvi Honig

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, a very important follow up meeting with the NJ Department of Health took place in the state capital of Trenton with Life for Lyme division of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce Health and Medical Alliance Division. The topic was on the medical challenges of Lyme Disease & other Vector Borne co-infections. Discussion included the immediate need to create awareness for this upcoming spring through educating teachers. A curriculum is actively being worked on. The commission members explained the different protocols that hospitals and doctors need to follow with Lyme disease and it was discussed how these protocols are problematic and need to be changed. Recommendations were made on making doctors aware of protocols that can work to save the lives of patients. The Life for Lyme members shared with the DOH commission the very tragic stories of patients' misdiagnoses due to untrained doctors and inaccurate testing. The commission understood that such issues can be prevented with the proper solutions. The Commissioner offered NJ DOH support for educational medical seminars and research into new testing. Another big issue discussed was insurance challenges that affect not only those with Lyme but those with other illnesses as well. The Commissioner was open to looking into solutions to the insurance problems. Life for Lyme is actively working with NJ congressman Chris Smith on a Federal Level to solve these issues as well. The commission offered to be actively leading the way to make changes to the necessary laws and regulations to better help the people of NJ.

The meeting was setup in coordination with the NJ Department of Health Commissioner Shereef M. Elnahal MD, MBA  and Duvi Honig Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce after their very successful first meeting in the summer..

Participating in the meeting:

Congressman Chris Smith to be honored for passing Bill against Anti Semitism in Times Square

Recently named Senior Co-Chairman of the 36th Annual Bet El Gala Dinner, Duvi Honig has secured NJ Congressman Chris Smith – recent author of the timely “Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Act” – to address the Dinner’s guests. Honig is Founder and CEO of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce, a global umbrella of businesses of all sizes, bridging the highest echelons of the business and governmental worlds together stimulating economic opportunity and positively affecting public policy of governments around the world.

This will be Honig’s third year of involvement with the Bet El Dinner, collaborating often with Dr. Joe Frager – the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce Executive VP of Public Policy and 2017 Bet El Dinner honoree – on activism projects that benefit all denominations and sectors of Jewish society. When asked what inspired him to become involved in the Dinner, Honig replied, “Even though I wear a black hat, I love every Jew. We’re all Am Yisrael and we’re all united together, regardless of religious or political affiliation. Bet El Institutions is building something great in Samaria – they have a thriving yeshiva, they put out Arutz Sheva, and have many other vital initiatives as well – it is important to support their work.”

Chairman of the Board Eugen Gluck will reside over the 36th Bet El Gala Dinner, which is the largest dinner for a pro-Israel institution in New York. The Dinner will be held at the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan on Sunday evening December 2, 2018. Those wishing to attend or support Bet El by placing an ad in the Dinner’s journal can register and/or place an ad here.

The Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce is well known for its work in fighting anti-Semitism globally and supporting the communities of Judea and Samaria. It engaged in decisive lobbying efforts to gain bipartisan support for the appointment of US Ambassador David Friedman, also former President of American Friends of Bet El Institutions. A close friend of Ambassador Friedman, Honig was one of 50 guests who witnessed his swearing in ceremony at the White House, having first gotten to know him at a Bet El Dinner.

Last year, Honig served as Co-Chairman of the 2017 Bet El Dinner, which honored former Congressman Ron DeSantis and National Security Advisor John Bolton as its Guest Speakers. DeSantis, who together with Bolton held the hearing on Capitol Hill last November testifying to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem, was elected last night as Governor of Florida.

When Honig was 13, he arrived in Israel for the first time and decided to stay by himself to live and learn there. He spent several years learning in yeshivot around the country before returning to the United States with his wife.

Jewish Chamber of Commerce US-Israel Business Alliance Mission

A group of elite business and political activists will head to Israel early January 2017 for a trailblazing mission to strengthen economic ties between the U.S. and Israel business world.

The “US-Israel Business Alliance Mission,” held on January 3rdand 4th, is a project of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce (OJC) and its Executive Public Policy Committee, led by Dr. Joe Frager, Dr. Paul Brody, Odelya Jacobs and Duvi Honig.

This mission is unique that it’s founded upon grassroots Orthodox community businesses in both countries, rather than the political or lobbying spheres. These businesspeople and activists have a genuine interest in the success of community business in the U.S. and Israel, and stand to benefit from invaluable networking and relationship building during the mission.

The OJC and mission leaders are already revered within the highest echelons of the business and political spheres both in the U.S. and Israel, and they will be utilizing their experience and relationships to the benefit of businesses and entrepreneurs in both countries. Other VIP activists, business leaders and government officialswill join in the mission and help make it a success.

During the mission, there will be a special Knesset symposium attended by leading Israeli government officials, cabinet members and business leaders; a private meeting with President Reuven Rivlin; and a VIP dinner at the King David Hotel with leading government officials, diplomats and business leaders; among other events.

At these and other forums, various measures to strengthen economic ties, defeat BDS, counter anti-Semitism will be discussed. “There are so many initiatives out there that can help meet our countries’ economic goals, but they require the proper relationships and willpower to implement,” explains Mr. Honig. “At this mission, the OJC will once again prove how much more powerful and effective we are when we work together.”

Additional details about mission schedule and participants will be released in the weeks ahead. For more information, or to participate in or sponsor the mission, please call 212-659-5270 Ext. 114 or email odeleya@ojchamber.com. Space is limited.

United Nations Press Conference with John Bolton

By: Shimmy Blum.

It was blistering cold in midtown Manhattan on Sunday afternoon as former UN Ambassador John Bolton and other leaders stood outside the UN – in the presence of major national media outlets – urging President Barack Obama and his administration to have Israel’s back during the final weeks of his presidency. Referring to the weather, Mr. Bolton, rumored to be the pick for Undersecretary of State in the Trump administration, quipped, “This is what it feels like for Israel in the UN on a good day.”

Ambassador Bolton was joined by Morton Klein, President of the Zionist Organization of America; and Dr. Joseph Frager, Odeleya Jacobs, Dr. Paul Brody and Duvi Honig , members of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce’s Public Policy Committee, which arranged the news conference. (The conference was sponsored by the Zionist Organization of America and National Council of Young Israel.) Aaron Klein, noted author, radio host and Breitbart News Jerusalem Bureau Chief, traveled in from Israel to address the conference as well.

Mr. Honig opened the conference by thanking Ambassador Bolton for his longstanding support for Israel. He mentioned how Yaakov Avinu prepared to defeat the enemies of his People through tefillah, Mr. Honig recited a kapitel Tehillim followed by the tefillah of “Acheinu” at the podium.

Dr. Frager explained that the goal of the press conference was to protect the special relationship between the U.S. and Israel from the castigating of Israel that the UN is infamous for. The conference also served as the official launch of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce’s mission to Israel on January 3rd and 4th, to strengthen U.S. – Israel economic ties. Former governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, among other high ranking officials, business leaders and activists, will participate in the mission.

Focusing on the weeks ahead, Mr. Klein of the ZOA cited the “real basis for fear” that the enemies of Israel will utilize these final weeks of the Obama administration to harm Israel at the UN. Specifically, there is the fear that the Obama administration will now support, or at least refuse to veto, UN resolutions that are damaging to Israel – unlike the administration’s policy up until now.

Secretary of State John Kerry and UN Ambassador Samantha Power refused to say whether they would go along with a UN declaration of settlements in East Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria as “illegal.” According to Wikileaks, senior Obama aides were discussing supporting a unilateral declaration of Palestinian statehood. The administration has also as of late been using harsher than usual language condemning Israeli construction within existing boundaries. Perhaps most concerning have been the recent declaration of support for unilateral Palestinian statehood by former President Jimmy Carter and The New York Times editorial page. “We believe that this is orchestrated,” said Mr. Klein, noting that an official Palestinian delegation is currently in Washington to lobby the administration to support its goals at the UN.

Dr. Frager pointed out that approximately 20% of the UN budget is covered by the United States, and our nation therefore has leverage to keep UN anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiment in check. “The PA can’t use the UN instead of negotiating,” he explained.

He was followed by Aaron Klein of Breitbart who detailed the various potential UN resolutions that may be pushed in the upcoming weeks. They include, among others, unilateral declaration of Palestinian statehood, a timetable for statehood declaration, or a declaration that Israeli settlements are illegal. “This is almost a sick joke…a diplomatic assault,” said Mr. Klein, detailing the Palestinians’ repeated refusal to accept a state at the negotiating table.

Ambassador Bolton was the final speaker of the conference, utilizing his impeccable diplomatic pedigree to sound the alarm about the “very far reaching repercussions” that would result from a US abandonment of Israel at the UN. He pointed to the bipartisan US consensus for nearly half a century that a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot be imposed by other countries. “It is a fiction that a resolution across First Avenue will lead to lasting peace,” he said.

The ambassador and other speakers then took questions from the audience, and expounded in greater detail how virulently anti-Semitic and anti-Israel Mahmoud Abbas and other “moderate” Palestinian leaders, not to mention Hamas, are – making it all the more dangerous if statehood gains momentum at this moment.

Mr. Honig concluded by expressing appreciation to President Obama and his administration for their repeated vetoes of anti-Israel UN resolutions in previous years, and other instances of support for Israel. He expressed hope that the administration will continue down that path through its final days. “The enemies of Israel are trying to hijack the UN to harm the Jews,” Mr. Honig summed up. “Don’t get blinded by the hate!”

Additional details about the OJC-Jewish Chamber Israel mission schedule and participants will be released in the weeks ahead. For more information, or to participate in or sponsor the mission, please call 212-659-5270 Ext. 114 or email events@ojchamber.com.
